We start at Arenas Negras, located in the North-West mountains, a picnic area in the middle of a centenarian Canarian Pine forest. As we slightly climb the vegetation starts to change due to the altitude and we discover an area of great geological significance. The recent lava flows create a unique insight into volcanic history. incredible aeolian habitats where the species have to survive on particles carried in the wind.
Chinyero, the volcano that lends its name to this nature area and home to Tenerife’s latest volcanic eruption in 1909,stands at 1,560 m and is impossible to overlook. This circular hike takes us from shady forests to rugged volcanic beds through constant changes and stunning views. We also see some of the many channels that bring water from the “galerías”( horizontal wells dug into the mountains) to the towns by the mere force of gravity.
This is an easy hike with a duration of approximately 3 hours at a comfortable pace. After the hike, we drive through northern forests and villages to a local farmhouse and vineyard, a “guachinche” , to enjoy Canarian food and wine.
This is a small group tour – Travel comfortably in our private van and enjoy the company of your friendly guides and fellow guests.
